The new season sees the cast return to Liverpool to confront fresh conflicts, with prominent actors Álvaro Morte and Sean Evans joining the lineup.
What to expect from season 2 of This City Is Ours
The BBC has released all eight episodes of the new season at once on BBC iPlayer, alongside the start of its weekly television broadcast. The announcement of a third season came before the new season’s viewing figures had been assessed, reflecting the broadcaster’s confidence in the successful crime drama.
Season 2 picks up directly from the dramatic ending of the first season. After believing they had escaped and could start a new life in Spain, Michael Kavanagh, played by James Nelson-Joyce, and his girlfriend Diana, played by Hannah Onslow, are forced to return to their hometown of Liverpool, where they must face the consequences of their involvement in Ricardo’s murder.
The new season takes a bold look at organised crime in the city, highlighting escalating tensions between gangs and fragile alliances on the verge of collapse when tested by questions of power and loyalty.
Stars of La Casa de Papel and Endeavour join the drama
The series stars James Nelson-Joyce, Hannah Onslow, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Jack McMullen. They are joined in season 2 by Álvaro Morte, known for his role in the internationally acclaimed series La Casa de Papel, and Sean Evans, star of Endeavour.
TV schedule and the future of the series
While many viewers prefer to watch episodes online in one sitting, BBC One has announced a traditional television schedule of two episodes per week, airing on Sundays and Mondays at 9 p.m. UK time. The television broadcast is scheduled to continue until mid-November 2026.
As for the already approved third season, the show’s creator and writer, Stephen Butchard, has confirmed that preparations are underway. Filming is scheduled to begin in Liverpool in 2027.
