Amman — Competition in the First Division Football League intensified following the conclusion of the fourth round, which brought further changes to the standings and kept the race for the top spots wide open. With points tightly contested, several teams remain in contention for the two promotion places to the Pro League.

Jerash moved to the top of the standings with 10 points after securing an exciting 2-1 victory over Al-Ahli. Jerash came from behind to claim a valuable win after Bahaa Al-Shalmaty put Al-Ahli ahead in the 79th minute. Mahmoud Karim Ismail then scored twice in quick succession, in the 83rd and 85th minutes, to turn the match around and put Jerash at the summit after four rounds.
Jerash were not the only team to benefit from the round. Amman FC, Ma’an, Sahab Horan and Yarmouk continued to chase the leaders, with each team reaching eight points. Ramtha Union climbed to sixth place with seven points, highlighting how the narrow gap between the leading teams makes every match crucial in the promotion race.
The fourth round delivered late drama, with Ramtha Union producing one of the most remarkable comebacks. Trailing Al-Sarhan, Ramtha Union fought back to secure a 2-1 victory in a match that saw all three goals scored in the closing minutes. Osama Al-Hasanat gave Al-Sarhan the lead in the 90th minute before Saif Al-Diyat equalized for Ramtha Union in the 90+3rd minute. Ahmad Al-Ashran then snatched the winner in the 90+7th minute, earning Ramtha Union three valuable points and keeping them close to the leading teams.
In another match, Yarmouk drew 1-1 with Amman FC. Aban Al-Ramahi gave Amman FC the lead in the 18th minute, before Ahmad Abu Suailik equalized for Yarmouk in the 69th minute. Both teams added a point to their tally, maintaining their positions in the race.
The match between Hay Prince Hassan and Hashemiyah ended in a goalless draw. Hashemiyah moved to five points, while Hay Prince Hassan reached two.
Ma’an claimed a valuable 2-0 win over Al-Sareeh, with Mohammad Abu Aqouleh scoring in the 40th and 62nd minutes. The result kept Ma’an among the leading teams with eight points, while Al-Sareeh remained on two.
The round concluded with Sahab Horan defeating Shabab Aqaba 2-0. Mohammad Saleem Al-Thayabat opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, while Suhaib Al-Zoubi added a second in the 90+4th minute. The victory strengthened Sahab Horan’s position among the leading teams, taking them to eight points, while Shabab Aqaba remained bottom of the table without a point.
In the first coaching change of the First Division League season, Al-Sarhan’s management accepted the resignation of first-team head coach Issa Al-Azayzeh and his assistant, Murad Thiyabat, following the defeat to Ramtha Union. Their departure marked the first coaching staff resignation in the competition after four rounds.
Goal-scoring statistics after four rounds
The total number of goals scored in the competition reached 47 after the fourth round, across 24 matches, averaging 1.96 goals per game.
The opening round produced 11 goals, averaging 1.83 per match. The tally rose to 15 goals in the second round, an average of 2.5 per match, representing an increase of four goals, or 36.4%, compared with the opening round.
The total then fell to nine goals in the third round, averaging 1.5 per match. This was six fewer goals than in the second round, a decline of 40%. The fourth round saw the tally rise again to 12 goals, averaging two per match.
The second round remains the highest-scoring round so far, followed by the fourth and first rounds, while the third round recorded the fewest goals.
Across the first four rounds, teams recorded 15 wins and nine draws, including three goalless draws. A total of 24 matches were played, with six matches per round, reflecting the close results and varying attacking performances among the teams.
Amman FC lead the attack, while Jerash and Al-Sarhan shine defensively
Amman FC have emerged as the league’s strongest attacking side, scoring eight goals so far. Hay Prince Hassan are the only team yet to score after four rounds, while Al-Ahli have managed just one goal.
Defensively, Jerash and Al-Sarhan have been the strongest teams, conceding only two goals each over the first four rounds. Shabab Aqaba have the league’s weakest defensive record, with 10 goals conceded.
