Jordan Seismological Observatory Director, Engineer Ghassan Sweidan, confirmed that the new station will help record and monitor seismic events in Petra and surrounding areas, enhancing the Kingdom’s capacity to observe seismic activity nationwide and analyze its risks.

Sweidan highlighted the importance of the station’s proximity to the Dead Sea Fault, which allows monitoring of earthquakes along the Arabian Plate and tracking seismic activity in the archaeological region.

He added that the technical team from the Observatory, including Engineer Ali Al-Atoum, geologist Murad Al-Hmeimat, and Murad Abu Shaqra, successfully installed and commissioned the station.

Sweidan extended his thanks to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the Secretary-General Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, and the Petra Regional Authority for their support and facilitation of the technical team’s work.
