This committee is part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza administration, following the genocidal war launched by Israel with Washington’s support on October 8, 2023, which lasted for two years.
The source, speaking anonymously, stated that committee members will begin their work in their respective fields after being officially informed of the committee’s formation.
According to The New York Times, citing four officials and six other sources, the U.S. is close to announcing the committee, with Ali Shath expected to lead it.
The first meeting is set to take place in Cairo on Thursday or, at the latest, Friday. No official statements have yet been issued by the Palestinian Authority, Cairo, or Washington regarding the meeting.
Committee Composition and Tasks
The committee includes academics, professionals, and civil society figures selected for their expertise to manage Gaza’s most urgent sectors in response to the humanitarian disaster.
Ali Shath, former Deputy Minister of Palestinian Planning, will chair the committee, bringing extensive experience in planning, infrastructure, and government work.
Omar Shomali, CEO of Palestine Telecommunications Company in Gaza, will handle communications, a sector heavily damaged by the war.
Abdel Karim Ashour, director of the Agricultural Relief Association, will manage agriculture, addressing the unprecedented collapse caused by Israeli land destruction and access restrictions.
Dr. Aed Yaghi, director of the Medical Relief Association, will oversee health, amid a collapsed healthcare system.
Engineer Aed Abu Ramadan, director of Gaza Chamber of Commerce, will manage trade and economy.
Dr. Jabr Daour, President of Palestine University, will handle education, as schools and universities were destroyed.
Bashir Al-Rais, engineering consultant, will oversee finances.
Engineer Ali Barhoum, executive director of the Joint Services Council for southern Gaza, will manage water and municipalities.
Hanaa Tarzi, lawyer, will manage social affairs and women’s issues.
Arabi Abu Shaban will oversee land authority affairs, and Mohammed Bseiso will handle the judiciary.
In security matters, Mohammed Tawfiq Heles and Mohammed Nesman are reportedly set to lead police and security management, focusing on restoring community security and civilian protection.
Factional Meetings
Under Trump’s plan, the technocrats committee will operate under the supervision of the so-called “Peace Council,” led by Trump, expected to include global leaders whose names will be announced later.
The plan also includes a ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, disarmament of Hamas, full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and deployment of an international stabilization force.
On Tuesday evening, Hamas announced that its delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, head of the movement in Gaza and chief negotiator, arrived in Cairo to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire and reopening of the Rafah crossing with Egypt.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet with leaders of other Palestinian factions to discuss ongoing political and field developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
