The rain turned the tents into waterlogged areas unfit for living, worsening the crisis for displaced families who lack even the most basic necessities.
Palestinian media shared video clips showing the suffering of displaced people as their tents were submerged, with many urging the international community to pressure Israel to allow more tents to be brought in due to the cold weather.
Gaza’s Civil Defense warned on Tuesday that a polar low-pressure system threatens hundreds of thousands of displaced families in the Strip, calling for international intervention to save residents living under catastrophic humanitarian conditions.
Civil Defense spokesperson, Major Mahmoud Basal, stated that camps, shelters, and structurally unsafe buildings are at high risk of severe damage from the storm and may collapse, resulting in casualties.
He also warned that low-lying camps will be completely flooded, with no capacity to absorb the heavy rainfall.
Basal described the situation as extremely difficult in a Gaza Strip already devastated by massive casualties from Israeli attacks and facing systemic collapse, urging the international community to act quickly to provide temporary housing for the population.
