Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya chaired a meeting of the Higher Council for Civil Defense at the ministry’s headquarters, attended by Director of Public Security Major General Dr. Obaidallah Al-Maaytah, secretaries-general of the relevant ministries, and representatives of the concerned entities appointed in accordance with the law.

The meeting focused on reviewing the readiness of institutions and their preparations for the upcoming winter season, as well as measures needed to address weather conditions and potential emergencies during the season.
Participants reviewed key preparations and plans developed for these purposes and assessed their effectiveness in responding to weather forecasts and conditions that could affect citizens’ movement and the provision of services.
The council also discussed procedural frameworks related to the legal requirements stipulated under Public Security Law No. 38 of 1965 and its amendments, with the aim of ensuring coordination among various entities during emergencies.
The meeting also reviewed the details of a comprehensive plan prepared in coordination with relevant state institutions.
The plan covers coordination, preparedness, and implementation mechanisms during changing weather conditions, taking into account lessons learned from previous years.
Al-Faraya said that the Jordanian state has demonstrated during the crises it has faced, including weather-related emergencies, that it is a cohesive institutional state capable of maintaining the continuity of life under the most challenging circumstances.
He noted that adherence to preparedness plans reflects the ability of specialized agencies to address risks at an early stage and reduce their impact on citizens and their property.
Al-Faraya also directed governors to activate emergency plans developed by local civil defense committees and take all necessary measures to address potential weather conditions.
For his part, the Director of Public Security highlighted the important role played by the Public Security Directorate as the first responder to risks arising from winter conditions.
He said that the directorate has completed the implementation of Royal directives to update and develop Civil Defense capabilities in line with emerging developments.
He also noted that joint operational plans have been prepared among the various departments of the Public Security Directorate, particularly Civil Defense and the Gendarmerie, to respond to such conditions.
The council also heard a briefing from the Director of Civil Defense on the department’s preparations for the winter season, including field readiness and response mechanisms based on potential scenarios.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also briefed the council on electricity companies’ preparations to deal with the winter season.
The meeting was held as part of the Higher Council for Civil Defense’s ongoing work to provide sufficient time for relevant departments and institutions to address any shortcomings identified during discussions on the weather conditions plan.
