An Israeli security official said: “As of this moment, and following the arrival of teams from the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) on behalf of the European Union, the Rafah crossing has now been opened for the movement of residents, both for entry and exit.”

Egyptian media reported that the number of travelers departing from Egypt to the Gaza Strip on the first day of the crossing’s operation will be 50 people, with a similar number of travelers crossing from the Gaza Strip into Egypt.

They also noted that dozens of Palestinians had arrived on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, waiting to be allowed to cross into Gaza.

Israel had partially reopened the Rafah crossing on Sunday, limiting passage to individuals under strict monitoring, while humanitarian organizations are calling for it to be fully opened without obstacles to allow the delivery of aid to the besieged and devastated enclave.

The Rafah crossing with Egypt is the only land outlet for the Gaza Strip that does not pass through Israeli occupation. However, it has remained closed since Israeli forces took control of it in May 2024, and it was briefly partially reopened in early 2025.
