Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized on Monday his country's current need for support from the World Bank and its partners, particularly to help address the needs of more than 600,000 citizens who have returned to their areas amid widespread damage to numerous towns and villages, some of which suffered near-total destruction.

President General Joseph Aoun discussed today with Dalia Khalifa, the World Bank’s Regional Director for the Middle East, and her accompanying delegation, ways to strengthen cooperation and align with Lebanon's urgent priorities in the upcoming period. The meeting took place on the occasion of her assuming her new duties, which cover Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran.
Khalifa affirmed the World Bank's commitment to continuing its partnership with Lebanon and responding rapidly to its pressing needs, noting a readiness to redirect priorities within existing programs toward the most severely affected areas.
