Speaking at a joint press conference, President Aoun stated, "Today we celebrate the demarcation of our maritime borders, which allows our countries to explore oil and gas resources. I thank everyone who contributed to this achievement."
He emphasized that the agreement marks a step away from conflict and domination, and toward cooperation, describing it as the first in a series of potential future bilateral agreements. The deal aims to revive historical ties and facilitate joint projects in energy, renewable energy, telecommunications, transport, and tourism.
President Aoun also highlighted plans for collaboration in security and defense, including a joint search and rescue center between the two nations’ defense ministries. He expressed hope that Cyprus’s upcoming EU presidency would accelerate Lebanon’s strategic cooperation with Europe, including signing a strategic partnership agreement and addressing regional priorities such as combating illegal migration across the Mediterranean.
He stressed that the agreement is inclusive and non-confrontational, intended to build a bridge for regional and international cooperation without targeting any neighboring country or partner.
