According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Aoun said that Lebanon chose the path of negotiations because it represents the best available option after the failure of war as a means of resolving disputes.

The Lebanese president stated that the framework agreement that emerged from the Washington negotiations reflects the logic of state institutions and includes provisions that preserve Lebanon’s rights both legally and on the ground.

Aoun also praised the position of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in helping prevent internal strife, saying:

“We are all in agreement that sedition and any attempt to undermine the army are unacceptable.”

He emphasized that residents of southern Lebanon, regardless of sect or community, have the right to live in safety and should not repeatedly bear the heavy costs of violence, destruction, and displacement.

Aoun further dismissed reports suggesting an intention to remove the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces or the heads of the country’s security agencies.

“There is no truth to such claims,” he said, stressing that their role is essential in maintaining security and extending state authority throughout the country.

The president added that the military and security institutions remain fundamental pillars in preserving stability and reinforcing Lebanese sovereignty.
