The president’s directive came during a meeting with Army Commander General Rudolf Heikal at the Baabda Palace on Thursday morning.
General Heikal briefed President Aoun on the details of the Israeli incursion that took place in the town of Blida, during which a municipal employee, Ibrahim Salameh, was killed while carrying out his duties.
President Aoun condemned the incident, describing it as part of Israel’s ongoing aggressive practices. He noted that it came shortly after a meeting of the committee monitoring the cessation of hostilities agreement (the “Mechanism”), which, he stressed, should not merely record violations but act to end them by pressuring Israel to abide by the November ceasefire agreement and stop violating Lebanese sovereignty.
According to the National News Agency, an employee of Blida Municipality was martyred early Thursday morning after an Israeli force infiltrated the town’s territory and stormed the municipal building.
A Lebanese security source reported that the Israeli force remained inside the town for several hours before withdrawing. The Lebanese army and civil defense later entered the municipal building and transported the victim’s body to the hospital.
During the incident, residents reported hearing screams and cries for help from inside the building. The incursion reportedly continued until around 4:00 a.m., before the Israeli force withdrew.
The source added that several residents of Blida blocked the main road in protest against the storming of the municipal headquarters and the killing of the employee.
