Details of the Claims
According to the Yazd Prosecutor, as reported by the Iranian agencies Mehr and Fars, the suspect initially claimed to be "chosen by God" before later escalating his claims to state that he was Jesus Christ. The man is accused of exploiting his followers by spreading superstitions and promoting unusual ascetic practices.
Allegations of Foreign Links
Reports indicate that the network established a "house church" and recruited several family members and acquaintances, both directly and via social media. Authorities categorized the group as a "Zionist Christian cult," alleging links to two Christian missionaries residing outside Iran with ties to Israel.
Accusations of Desecration
The Public Prosecution also stated that some followers committed acts such as:
Tearing and burning copies of the Quran.
Insulting sanctities and religious sites.
Praying for the victory of the Israeli military.
Official Response
For its part, the Iranian police urged residents to learn the teachings of Christ only through state-approved Islamic and Christian preachers. No further details regarding the suspect's identity or the total number of individuals detained were provided.
