Israeli occupation forces closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron in the occupied West Bank to Muslim worshippers on Monday, keeping it closed until Wednesday under the pretext of Jewish holidays.

Ibrahimi Mosque Director Moataz Abu Sneineh condemned the closure, which Israeli authorities said was intended to secure settlers’ celebrations of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. He described the measure as a blatant violation of the sanctity of the mosque and a provocative assault on Muslims’ right to access their places of worship.
Israeli occupation forces also tightened military measures and closed all military checkpoints and electronic gates leading to the mosque to secure settlers’ celebrations inside the mosque and its courtyards.
Abu Sneineh said the forces increased their presence at all entrances leading to the mosque to secure settlers’ access to Hebron and its archaeological sites, while closing some markets in the Old City.
Jewish holidays have repeatedly placed additional restrictions on Palestinians in Hebron, particularly as they coincide with heightened military measures, including tightened restrictions at checkpoints, difficulties for residents trying to reach their homes, especially in and around Hebron’s Old City, as well as continued attacks and harassment by settlers.
