Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported Monday that no new talks are scheduled between Iran and the United States, after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that negotiations could resume next week.

IRNA quoted a source close to the Iranian delegation in New York for the United Nations General Assembly meetings as saying that the delegation “does not intend to negotiate with the United States.”
The agency said Iran’s views and positions had been conveyed clearly and directly to the U.S. side last Tuesday through a Qatari mediator. The Iranian delegation is scheduled to return to Tehran on Tuesday.
Trump told Axios on Sunday that he expected talks with Iran to resume next week, a day after rejecting an Iranian proposal calling for a halt to hostilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
Iran has made several conditions for reopening the strait, including a seven-day cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, the release of its frozen assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil and an end to the U.S. naval blockade of its ports.
According to Axios, citing sources familiar with the matter, indirect talks between Washington and Tehran could have begun Monday, following several days of indirect discussions between U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for global oil supplies and a key element of the conflict between the United States and Iran, which has reached an impasse after nearly seven months. Iran has effectively closed the strait, while the United States has responded by imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
The United States has not carried out strikes on Iran since September 1, despite subsequent attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
