Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Sunday, Araghchi stated that intervention by any other party or any new unilateral measures regarding the Strait of Hormuz would delay its return to normal operations.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the memorandum of understanding must remain on track, noting that its first provision is a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Araghchi also called for Israel's withdrawal from the areas it occupies in Lebanon, arguing that this falls under the responsibility of the U.S. government.
He emphasized the importance of halting Israeli attacks in Lebanon and urged all parties to adhere to the path of de-escalation and address the region’s security challenges.
The minister highlighted Iran’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Iraq across various sectors, explaining that his visit to Baghdad comes amid special regional circumstances.
He added that he would discuss economic and security cooperation with Iraqi officials, stressing that Iran remains determined to continue strategic cooperation with the Iraqi government in all fields.
Araghchi’s visit to Baghdad comes amid escalating regional tensions following the recent military confrontation between Iran and the United States, and coincides with the announcement of a new U.S.-brokered framework of understanding between Lebanon and Israel. The visit also takes place amid intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at containing tensions and restoring stability to the region.
