According to the Oman News Agency, ships intending to use the passage must coordinate with the IMO and comply with the coordinates and navigation guidelines issued by both the international organization and the relevant Omani authorities.

The measure is intended to ensure freedom of navigation through the strategically important waterway in accordance with international law and the Law of the Sea, both of which support the principle of free maritime passage without the imposition of transit fees.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, serving as a major conduit for global oil and natural gas exports.
