The spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced Thursday that Saudi air defenses had intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia toward the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.اضافة اعلان

Al-Maliki said the air defense forces “intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia toward the Eastern Province.”

Saudi Arabia has faced continued Houthi attacks this month, including a deadly attack targeting Riyadh International Airport.

Earlier this week, the Houthis claimed they had targeted the Ras Tanura oil refinery in eastern Saudi Arabia with a ballistic missile. They said the strike was “accurate” and caused “massive fires” at the targeted site.

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis launched an offensive against government forces and seized large areas, including the capital, Sanaa.

In 2015, a Saudi-led military coalition intervened to support the internationally recognized government, intensifying the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Yemen, one of the poorest countries in the Arabian Peninsula.
