Jordan's national karate team continued its strong showing at the 24th Asian Karate Championship, with its athletes adding 9 new medals yesterday, 4 gold and 5 bronze, raising their overall medal tally at the championship to 18 and moving up to second place in the overall standings.

The four gold medals came from Hala Ghannam, who won the under-59kg category; Mohammad Al-Najjar in the under-61kg category; Lara Darwish in the over-66kg category; and Hatem Al-Harasis in the under-68kg category, marking another achievement added to the string of standout results Jordan's athletes have produced at the championship.
On the bronze medal front, Layan Al-Saeed won in the under-53kg category, Lana Ahmad in the under-66kg category, Rayan Qatanani in the under-76kg category, and Qasem Al-Omari in the over-76kg category, while Fares Al-Awaisheh added a bronze in the individual kata competition for the under-21 category.
With these results, Jordan raised its tally to 18 medals, 6 gold and 12 bronze, moving into second place in the championship's overall standings, behind leaders Iran, while Saudi Arabia sit in third.
Yesterday's competitions featured medal ceremonies, with Asian Karate Federation president and World Karate Federation vice president Major General Nasser Al-Razouqi, Arab and West Asian Karate Federations president Dr. Ibrahim Al-Qannas, and Jordan Karate Federation president Hassan Massoud, alongside members of the Asian federation, presenting medals to the top finishers and winners.
Jordan's national team is hoping to continue collecting medals as the championship wraps up today, with competitions in the under-21 category, aiming to boost its tally and compete for the top spot in the overall standings.
In the women's competitions, Jordan is represented by Marina Salah in the under-50kg category, Balsam Al-Saaydeh in the under-55kg category, Leen Marcus in the under-61kg category, Sereen Al-Najjar in the under-68kg category, and Yara Nasser in the over-68kg category.
In the men's competitions, the team is represented by Nazmi Baha in the under-55kg category, Ahmad Hani in the under-60kg category, Omar Abdul Rahman in the under-67kg category, Walid Qatamesh in the under-75kg category, Suhaib Sammour in the under-86kg category, and Raed Hamza in the over-84kg category.
The results achieved so far reflect the advanced level Jordanian karate has reached, amid hopes of continued success and additional medals by the end of the competition.
