Facebook has launched features aimed at bringing fans closer to their favorite content creators: fan challenges and custom badges for top fans.

The fan challenges feature allows creators to encourage their followers to participate in specific challenges.

Followers can join by creating a short video or posting a response, according to a report by TechCrunch.

To boost engagement, the challenge hashtag will appear on a leaderboard that ranks posts based on the number of interactions they receive.

These types of challenges are very popular on short-video platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, where users participate in informal dance challenges or enjoy trending audio clips.

Facebook is turning this trend into a formal feature by creating a landing page for specific challenges for creators.

For example, Facebook suggested that a cooking content creator celebrate the arrival of autumn by inviting followers to share videos of their favorite recipes featuring pumpkin.

Kaleen Allen, a content creator with 3.6 million followers on Facebook, tested this feature with a challenge asking followers to create videos expressing their dreams and goals, which received around 520 submissions.

Meta reports that followers contributed 1.5 million submissions to the challenge over the past three months during the feature’s testing phase.

Facebook also allows creators to customize “Top Fan” badges that appear next to the usernames of users who interact most with their content.

So instead of simply being labeled as a “Top Fan,” users can now become a “Main Fan” if they prefer.

Other celebrities, including Cardi B and J Balvin, have also activated custom badges.

Facebook is generally not as creator-focused as Instagram, which recently celebrated reaching 3 billion monthly active users.

These updates show that Meta wants fans to take Facebook seriously as a platform for engaging with creators.

The features are designed to increase engagement—this time through genuine human interaction. Last week, Meta announced it would launch an AI-based video feed on its app, relying entirely on AI-generated videos.
