You may sometimes want to prevent videos and GIFs from playing automatically on your social media accounts—whether to save mobile data, reduce app addiction, or simply have better control over your viewing experience. Here is a guide to disabling autoplay on popular platforms.

Facebook
Go to your Profile Icon (top right on desktop, or bottom navigation bar on mobile).
Scroll down to Settings & Privacy, then select Preferences.
Choose Media.
Under the "Autoplay" section, select Never Autoplay Videos.
Quick Path: Settings > Preferences > Media > Autoplay > Never.
Instagram
Note: Instagram does not have a dedicated "Off" switch for autoplay, but you can limit it.
Tap your Profile Picture (bottom right).
Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines, top right).
Go to Settings and Activity > Your app and media > Media quality.
Enable Use less cellular data (Data Saver). This will prevent videos from pre-loading on mobile data.

X (formerly Twitter)
Tap your Profile Icon to open the sidebar.
Select Settings and Privacy.
Go to Accessibility, display, and languages > Data usage.
Tap Video autoplay and set it to Never.
Extra tip: Go to Display and sound and toggle off Media previews for even more control.

Bluesky
Open the Menu (three lines, top left) and select Settings.
Choose Content and Media.
Toggle off Autoplay videos and GIFs.
