Paintings that Carry Nomadic Heritage
Karam is participating with three carefully curated works from her “Fields of Awakening” series in the enchanting group exhibition “What Takes Form,” where memory weaves threads of light at Soho House Hong Kong. This exceptional event is presented by Artbridger under the visionary artistic direction of curator Randa Sadaka, right in the heart of the dazzling Hong Kong Art Week.
This is not merely an artistic participation, but a celebratory procession included in the VIP tour accompanying the legendary Art Basel Hong Kong fair, where cultures dance and civilizations embrace.
Sadu Becomes the Abstract Spoken Language
In Catherine Karam’s world, Sadu is not just a textile, it is the heartbeat of the desert and the breaths of ancestors transformed into a visual symphony that caresses the spirit. Her works bear the imprint of “Mindful Luminism,” the revolutionary style she pioneered through her artistic brand Conscious Walls in 2023.
Each painting is a multi-layered story, watercolors drifting in quiet shadows, acrylic blazing like sunset fire, charcoal cascading like sudden rain, and Sadu threads woven by hands that carry memories from the dunes. Here, materials do not merely adorn the surface; they mimic the soul and commune with the innermost self.
A Journey of a Thousand Dreams and One Dream
From the enchanting Lebanese village of Baskinta, where she was born in 1982, to the halls of the Lebanese University’s Institute of Fine Arts where she honed her talent, then through Dubai since 2008 and into Doha since 2012, Catherine has embarked on a decade-long journey of rediscovering herself.
She returned to the art scene with a vision that storms like a tempest and calms like a breeze, believing that “a painting is not merely a work hanging on a wall, but the flowing voice of the artist and a lifeboat for souls thirsty for awakening.”
Words That Glow Like Stars
Karam speaks poetically about her choice: “I chose Sadu because it holds the heritage of this place and the translator of the patterns we dance with on the stage of life and healing. In my paintings, I shatter the chains of these patterns, just as we break the shackles of the past to soar toward the inner light.”
Curator Randa Sadaka adds with enthusiasm: “Catherine’s works pulse with the spirit of the exhibition; they blend materiality with a high spiritual energy that captivates the Asian audience. We are proud to ignite the flame of Lebanese and Arab art in Hong Kong, this magical bridge between East and West.”
Stars in the Sky of Success
This brilliant achievement follows the success Karam achieved at AlBahie Auction House in Doha in 2025, where her painting “The Awakening” captured hearts and earned unparalleled admiration. The journey does not stop here; ambitions extend to upcoming participations in Jordan through Khuzamah Abou Jaoudeh Gallery and beyond, in an ongoing quest to weave the ancient Arab heritage into the contemporary global art.
