Secretary-General of the Water Authority, Sofian Al-Bataineh, confirmed on Sunday that the Water Authority is continuously monitoring water conditions across Ma'an Governorate. Working in coordination with the governorate and the Ma'an Water Directorate, the authority is identifying priorities and needs to address them, thereby improving the efficiency of the water supply system and enhancing service quality for residents.

Al-Bataineh noted that the Water Authority will continue supporting the Ma'an Water Administration while overseeing projects and measures designed to reinforce water sources, improve distribution networks, and reduce water loss. He confirmed that preparations for several water sources will begin alongside efficiency upgrades for operating ones.
Additionally, initial procedures have commenced for the Ma'an wastewater project—valued at approximately €50 million—with preparatory work scheduled for next November running through a six-month period, followed by construction starting next year. Meanwhile, implementation has already begun on the Ma'an Qasabah water network rehabilitation and upgrade project, valued at around 12 million JOD.
These statements came during a meeting held on Sunday at the governorate headquarters between Ma'an Governor Khaled Al-Hajjaj and Water Authority Secretary-General Sofian Al-Bataineh. The meeting was attended by Assistant for Media Affairs Omar Salameh, Director of the Internal Control Unit Rami Shteiwi, Director of Ma'an Water Mohammad Al-Assoufi, and several relevant officials. The discussion focused on mechanisms to enhance water security across various regions of the governorate, following up on the Royal visit to Ma'an and as part of ongoing inter-institutional coordination efforts.
Al-Bataineh emphasized that field follow-ups and direct coordination with local authorities represent a fundamental factor in identifying challenges and implementing suitable solutions within available resources and plans.
Governor Al-Hajjaj stated that the governorate assigns paramount importance to the water sector, given its role as a top priority linked to daily life and regional development. He stressed the necessity of continued collaboration with the Water Authority to tackle existing challenges, optimize water supply efficiency, and address the needs of local communities to ensure fair, uninterrupted water delivery.
He added that the Royal visit to Ma'an serves as a catalyst to accelerate project execution and elevate service standards for citizens. He highlighted the importance of implementing water priorities, conducting field follow-ups, and addressing concerns through practical, sustainable solutions that bolster the governorate's service and development landscape, commending the ministry's responsiveness to Ma'an's water and sanitation demands.
For his part, Director of Ma'an Water Mohammad Al-Assoufi explained that the directorate continues to monitor water conditions across the governorate, addressing citizen feedback and improving supply and maintenance operations in ongoing coordination with the Water Authority and relevant entities.
Al-Assoufi added that the directorate prioritizes the needs of local communities, working to enhance network efficiency and resolve technical faults to ensure regular water supply and improve overall service delivery for citizens.
