Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated on Sunday that US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the Strait of Hormuz are unrealistic, emphasizing that control over the strait cannot be established through media rhetoric or military displays.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Gharibabadi noted that "Trump declared that following the defeat of Iran, he would soon announce the Strait of Hormuz as part of US territory." He stressed that "the Strait of Hormuz cannot be controlled through tweets or aircraft carriers, nor through issuing orders or campaign speeches."
The Iranian official continued: "Tehran is neither intimidated by threats nor yields to displays of force," asserting that "the Strait of Hormuz will remain subject solely to Tehran's will—opened or closed by Iranian decision."
He added that "the United States has suffered heavy strategic losses so far," calling on Washington to "accept this reality and abandon illusions; otherwise, Iran will continue to enforce the naval blockade."
He further stated: "Accept the truth once and for all: you have suffered heavy, strategic losses to date. The Strait of Hormuz is Iranian—it is, and it will remain so."
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime choke points for oil and gas transit. Maintaining maritime security through the passage is of strategic importance to global trade and energy supply amid ongoing security tensions in the region.
It is worth noting in this context that Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding last June, under which the two parties were scheduled to conduct negotiations within a 60-day period to reach a final agreement. However, the fate of these talks has become uncertain due to renewed tensions between the two sides.
