Team returns from Lisbon after nabbing silver

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s national Karate team returned to the Kingdom on Tuesday after taking part in the Karate1 Premier League tournament in Lisbon, Spain.اضافة اعلان

The national men’s team bagged a silver medal after Abdel Rahman Al-Masatfa (-67 weight group) lost to French Europe and world champion, Steven Da Costa (1-0). Masatfa did. however, beat the Polish, Milosz Sabieki (3-0) and the Turkish, Muratcan Deniz (3-2).

In the first round of the competition, Masatfa defeated Italian, Gianluca De Vivo by advantage after the match ended in a draw. He then met and won against Hungarian, Martial Yves Taddisi (8-0) in the quarterfinals and Egyptian, Ali El-Sawy in the semi-finals (3-2).

The competition was held between May 1 and May and featured over 800 athletes from more than 85 countries.

In mid-May, the World Karate Federation is expected to launch the latest athlete rankings, which will award additional points to players who have taken part in the Lisbon tournament. Winning each round will grant players a set number of points. The same applies to those who reached the semifinals and finals, or were awarded medals at the end of the tournament.
