Health experts have warned against ignoring persistent itching in the feet, emphasizing that this symptom—especially when accompanied by other signs—may require medical consultation.

They noted that occasional itching is common and can result from minor causes such as cold, dry weather or insect bites. However, continuous itching that does not subside may indicate a deeper health problem, with the feet being particularly susceptible.
Liver Diseases
Itching is a symptom of liver conditions, whether due to excessive alcohol consumption or fatty liver, which can become serious if untreated.
The experts explained that itching can occur anywhere on the body but is often seen on the arms, legs, soles of the feet, and palms. Its severity ranges from mild to exhausting. While the exact cause is unclear, it is linked to the accumulation of bile salts in the blood and changes in other chemicals such as histamine, serotonin, certain hormones, and alkaline phosphatase.
Other liver disease symptoms include:
Persistent fatigue and weakness
Loss of appetite and possible weight loss
Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
Nausea or vomiting
Diabetes
Itching of the feet, along with the legs and ankles, is common among people with diabetes. Prolonged high blood sugar levels can cause skin irritation, and complications such as nerve damage or kidney disease may also contribute.
Other diabetes symptoms include:
Excessive thirst
Frequent urination, especially at night
Severe fatigue
Loss of weight and muscle mass
Kidney Diseases
Itching is prevalent among patients with kidney disease, affecting about half of those in advanced stages and most dialysis or conservatively treated patients.
It can worsen as kidney function declines, and may be exacerbated by dry skin, high temperatures, insufficient dialysis sessions, or elevated calcium levels in the blood.
Other kidney disease symptoms include:
Unexplained weight loss and loss of appetite
Swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands
Shortness of breath
Persistent fatigue
Blood in urine
Frequent urination, especially at night
Experts stress the importance of seeing a doctor if any of these symptoms appear, particularly if the itching is persistent or accompanied by other health indicators.
