According to experts, attention should be paid to the brewing time, temperature, and the amount of tea leaves used. There are five common mistakes to avoid in order to enjoy healthy and beneficial tea:
1. Brewing very strong tea:
It is recommended to use one teaspoon of tea leaves per cup, with an extra teaspoon for larger quantities. Very strong tea contains a high level of caffeine, which may overstimulate the nervous system, and tannins that can cause intestinal disorders and constipation. It is also a strong diuretic, so excessive consumption should be avoided.
2. Brewing tea for too long, especially leftover tea:
Aged tea loses most of its health benefits and allows the growth of pathogenic microorganisms that may cause health damage. Therefore, it is better to prepare fresh tea each time.
3. Drinking tea when it is too hot:
Very hot beverages irritate the mucous membranes of the throat, esophagus, and stomach, which may lead to scar formation that increases the risk of infections and malignant tumors.
4. Drinking tea on an empty stomach:
It is recommended to drink tea half an hour after eating, as it enhances digestion and helps speed up metabolism. Drinking tea on an empty stomach can suppress appetite due to the effect of tea leaf extracts on hunger sensations, making skipping breakfast unhealthy.
5. Drinking tea immediately after a meal:
Some components of tea may hinder the absorption of protein, iron, and important nutrients. Therefore, it is preferable to wait half an hour after eating before drinking tea.
