U.S. President Donald Trump asserted on Friday that his policies will ultimately lead to economic prosperity, while acknowledging the possibility of a recession in the initial phase.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the world's largest economy declined by 0.3% on an annualized basis in the first quarter of 2025, marking the start of Trump’s second term in the White House, according to figures released Wednesday.
“It’s a transitional phase, and I think things are going to go very well,” Trump told NBC News, according to excerpts from an interview set to air in full on Sunday.
When asked about the risk of a recession in the United States, he replied, “Anything can happen.”
“But I believe we’re going to see the greatest economy in the history of our country. I think we’re going to witness the biggest economic boom in history,” he added.
Financial markets have experienced volatility since Trump’s return to the White House, as he launched a new trade war by imposing broad tariffs on imported goods.
However, stock prices rebounded on Friday on Wall Street after the release of a government report on unemployment and job creation that contained better-than-expected data.
