Amman – The Minister of Environment and Chair of the National Steering Committee for Reducing Random Waste Disposal, Ayman Suleiman, announced that the 2026–2027 Executive Program for the National Strategy on Cleanliness and Combating Random Waste Disposal was launched in response to growing environmental challenges and the financial costs of waste management, including collection, transport, and final disposal. The program also addresses the negative effects of waste accumulation in streets, tourist areas, parks, and public facilities.

During a press conference, Suleiman emphasized that the program aims to protect natural resources, reduce soil and water pollution, and safeguard animal and plant life. He explained that it seeks a qualitative shift in public cleanliness by enhancing waste management in streets, squares, public spaces, forests, natural areas, and historical and tourist sites, ensuring a safe, clean, and sustainable environment.
The national campaign focuses on public awareness, education, and strengthening enforcement and legal compliance, contributing to public health protection and reducing waste management costs.
Suleiman also announced the launch of an electronic system for environmental violations, featuring mobile cameras—50 in Amman and 250 across other governorates. Fines for violations will range from 50 to 500 Jordanian dinars.
The Executive Program addresses random waste disposal through four main pillars: regulatory, technical, enforcement, and awareness measures. These were designed based on a realistic assessment of regional needs and challenges, adopting an integrated approach linking environmental and developmental policies, promoting sustainability, improving quality of life, enhancing Jordan’s status as a tourist destination, reducing waste management costs, and supporting the circular economy.
The program was approved by the Council of Ministers, and a ministerial committee was formed under the Environment Minister’s leadership. Members include ministers of Local Administration, Public Works and Housing, Government Communications, Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Interior, Finance, Agriculture, and Tourism and Antiquities, along with the Chair of the Amman Municipality Committee and the Director of Public Security.
The committee is tasked with overseeing program implementation, submitting periodic reports to the Council of Ministers, ensuring coordination between relevant entities, measuring performance indicators, evaluating environmental and behavioral impacts, and implementing improvements to achieve effective and sustainable results.
