The crossing had been closed since Saturday, following the start of the military escalation in the region.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) stated that the decision to reopen the crossing was made "based on a security assessment."

Strategic Location and Recent Closures
The Kerem Shalom crossing, which is under Israeli control, is situated at the intersection point between Gaza, Israel, and Egypt.

Last Saturday, the Israeli occupation announced the closure of all crossings leading to Gaza as a "security measure," including the Rafah crossing on the border between the Palestinian territories and Egypt.

The Rafah crossing—the only gateway for Gazans to the outside world that does not pass through Israel—had been reopened for transit on February 2, following nearly two years of control by Israeli occupation forces.
