The Syrian Ministry of Energy attributed the current decrease in electricity supply hours to a reduction in natural gas supplies arriving via Jordan, which are designated for power plant operations. The ministry noted that pumping has occasionally ceased entirely due to the ongoing regional escalation.

This follows statements by Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, on Sunday, who confirmed that regional events have led to a disruption in natural gas supplies to the Kingdom from Mediterranean fields used for power generation.
In a press statement, Al-Kharabsheh noted that Jordan has begun implementing its approved emergency plan, transitioning to alternative energy sources such as natural gas from the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), diesel, or heavy fuel oil.
Al-Kharabsheh explained that switching to diesel instead of natural gas costs the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) approximately 1.8 million JOD per day. However, he reassured that Jordan maintains a sufficient strategic reserve and that there are no technical issues regarding the supply process.
