According to foreign trade figures released by the Department of Statistics (DoS), Jordan’s pharmaceutical exports grew by 5.1% last year, reaching 642 million JOD, compared to 611 million JOD in 2024.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Al-Atrash noted that the Jordanian pharmaceutical industry has begun to benefit from significant Royal momentum and support, particularly following His Majesty King Abdullah II’s tours of several Asian countries, where markets are witnessing growth and demand for human medicine products.

A Promising Sector with High Quality
Al-Atrash added that pharmaceutical industries now represent one of Jordan's most promising sectors due to advanced expertise and high quality. The Kingdom currently produces more than 4,500 pharmaceutical varieties, up from only a few in previous years.

He highlighted that human medicine factories in the Kingdom are continuously expanding production lines, injecting new investments, and keeping pace with the latest technological developments and product innovation, which has enhanced their standing and competitiveness in export markets.

Sector Statistics and Capabilities
Facilities: 30 facilities across the Kingdom.

Registered Capital: Approximately 350 million JOD.

Workforce: 10,000 direct jobs (35% held by females).

Reach: Exports to 85 markets worldwide.

Production Capacity: Reaches 1.5 billion JOD annually.

Al-Atrash explained that the sector relies on a successful business model focused on branded generics and adherence to high international standards.

Diverse Medical Specialties
Jordan produces a wide range of medications covering various specialties, including:

Chronic diseases, oncology, infectious diseases, neurology, psychiatry, allergies, and gastrointestinal conditions.

Pharmaceutical forms: Tablets, capsules, liquids, drops, sprays, solutions, intravenous (IV) injections, and creams.

Al-Atrash concluded by praising the pivotal role of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) in supporting therapeutic industries, specifically by accelerating registration procedures for medicines, medical supplies, and food supplements, as well as implementing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. This has bolstered the sector's ability to enter new markets and strengthen its presence in global supply chains.
