White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a press briefing, in response to a question about a potential U.S. offer to buy the Danish autonomous territory, that “this matter is actively being studied by the President and his National Security team at the moment.”

She added that Trump’s team is currently exploring a possible deal and emphasized that Trump believes acquiring Greenland serves U.S. national security interests.

Leavitt stated: “He sees it as being in the United States’ interest to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region. Therefore, his team is currently examining a potential purchase deal.”

When asked why Trump does not rule out military action against a NATO member state, Leavitt responded: “All options are always on the table for President Trump.” She clarified, however, that “the President’s first choice remains diplomacy.”

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that he intends to meet with Danish officials next week, after Copenhagen requested a meeting to discuss Trump’s ongoing remarks about controlling Greenland. Rubio told reporters: “I will meet with them next week.”
