In an official statement, the Venezuelan government said it “condemns the military provocation carried out by Trinidad and Tobago in coordination with the CIA to incite war in the Caribbean region”, adding that it had captured a group of mercenaries working for the CIA.

The USS Gravely, accompanied by a Marine unit, arrived on Thursday to conduct joint exercises with the Trinidad and Tobago military. The move comes as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to pressure Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
