Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the security discussion involving Netanyahu and the defense minister over the aircraft had ended and that “the incident was not security-related.”
Media reports said the aircraft landed in Saudi Arabia, while Israeli media offered differing accounts of what caused the change in course and the confusion surrounding the flight.
One account reported by Israeli media said a dispute broke out between the pilots, resulting in the emergency button being pressed accidentally. However, the exact cause of the incident had not been definitively established.
Earlier, Israeli media reported an incident aboard a Flydubai aircraft traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with about 100 Israelis on board, prompting the aircraft to change course.
Walla reported that the aircraft returned to Dubai while authorities were determining whether the incident was security-related or caused by a technical malfunction.
Channel 12 also reported that an alert had been issued over a “security incident” aboard the aircraft, noting that it had departed Dubai for Tel Aviv before changing course.
