Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran held talks with Qatari mediators in New York on Monday to discuss ideas aimed at finding a way forward that would meet Iran’s conditions, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.
Araghchi said the talks focused on ways to “find a way forward to meet Iran’s conditions” and how those conditions could be fulfilled.
He said the Qatari side would present the outcome of the discussions to the United States, after which the US response would be conveyed to Iran. Araghchi expressed hope that the response would be received on Tuesday.
He added that the exchange of messages and communications with Qatari and Pakistani mediators had been ongoing, but had taken on a more serious form “in light of the initiative put forward by Iran.”
Araghchi said he would leave New York for Tehran within hours, adding that the Qataris knew how to convey the US response to Iran as soon as it became available.
US President Donald Trump had previously said that the US negotiating team held indirect talks with Iran on Monday through mediators.
Trump also denied on Truth Social that he had offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds, saying that Axios had published a report “claiming that I offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen money. This is not true.”
