A senior White House official said oil is currently flowing through the Strait of Hormuz at a rate of between 10 million and 11 million barrels per day, while Iran’s influence over the strategic waterway is declining week by week.

The official said alternative routes being implemented by the U.S. Navy are producing results, adding that Iran’s currency has fallen to an unprecedented record low while inflation has reached its highest level on record.
The official also predicted that, “one way or another,” the Iranian regime would eventually abandon its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.
Regarding the Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly, the official said visas had been granted to some members and noted that the delegation is smaller than it was last year.
On Washington’s relations with countries in the region, the official said President Donald Trump values U.S. partners and would meet with them to hear their concerns, stressing the importance of maintaining diplomatic engagement with them as a group.
Trump Signs New Sanctions Law Targeting Iran and Russia
Amid mounting pressure on Iran and Russia, Trump signed a sanctions bill into law after it was approved by Congress.
The legislation expands sanctions, tariffs and restrictions on Russia while extending existing sanctions against Iran.
The new measures target Russia over its war in Ukraine and represent the first major congressional action against Moscow since Trump returned to office.
For the first time, the law targets Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” and also imposes measures affecting President Vladimir Putin and other senior Russian officials.
The legislation gives Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil and gas, potentially including China and India.
The House of Representatives approved the bill on Thursday after it passed the Senate in August.
The legislation is named after its sponsor, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who died in July, and has received strong backing from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump signed the law after dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow resumed following recent visits to both capitals by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
