U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will strike various Iranian power facilities, starting with the largest, if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours of his post on Truth Social early Sunday.
Trump stressed that the operation would be carried out “without threats,” emphasizing that the matter requires urgent attention.
Later, media outlets reported that the Iranian Armed Forces warned that if fuel and energy infrastructure were targeted, all U.S. energy infrastructure in the region would become targets for military retaliation.
Since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran on February 28, Tehran has responded by carrying out strikes on sites in Gulf countries and on commercial shipping vessels transiting the strait.
The effective disruption of the Strait of Hormuz—through which around 20% of the world’s oil and gas typically passes—along with attacks on oil and gas facilities in the Middle East, has led to a sharp rise in prices.
