Zahran Mahmood Mamdani, a Muslim and the Democratic Party candidate, has emerged as the frontrunner in the Democratic primary race for Mayor of New York City, the largest city in the United States. He topped the list ahead of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who came in second and congratulated Mamdani on his victory.اضافة اعلان

Mamdani, 33, secured 431,000 votes, amounting to 43% of the total, while Cuomo received 360,000 votes, or 36%.

Mamdani now faces a tough general election in November, where he will compete against the current mayor Eric Adams—running as an independent—Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, and independent candidate Jim Walden.
