Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Tehran will not cooperate with the United States unless Washington changes its regional policies, abandons its support for Israel, and withdraws its military bases.

Speaking at a student gathering in Tehran marking the anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy, Khamenei stated:
“If the United States completely abandons its support for the Zionist regime, withdraws its military bases from the region, and refrains from interfering in its affairs, then the possibility of cooperation can be considered.”
He added that “the inherently arrogant nature of the United States accepts nothing short of submission,” stressing that Iran’s strength remains the main guarantee of its security.
Khamenei’s remarks come in the wake of the unprecedented war between Iran and Israel that erupted last June, during which the U.S. intervened by bombing Iranian nuclear facilities. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks, before a ceasefire was reached on June 24.
The United States withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed tough sanctions on Tehran. In September, the United Nations reinstated sanctions under the “snapback” mechanism, triggered by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
