The spokesperson for the Iranian military said Saturday that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz is irreversible, adding that the United States has no choice but to accept the situation or face costs far greater than those incurred previously.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the Strait of Hormuz is no longer merely an economic passage, but has become a strategic instrument of power in global confrontations.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday that the current circumstances could provide an opportunity to continue efforts toward reaching an agreement and resolving outstanding issues through negotiations.
Pezeshkian said the present time is the most appropriate moment to reach an agreement, citing what he described as “cohesion, strength and unity” within the country.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Saturday that Iran had informed the United States that it would not impose fees on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Washington would wait to see what happens in practice.
Oman, meanwhile, said Saturday that ongoing negotiations over arrangements related to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz are proceeding in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
The Omani Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement the importance of avoiding any actions that could affect the negotiations or the progress achieved, which takes into account the interests of all parties.
Oman also condemned repeated attacks on vessels while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as violations of international law and the sovereignty of territorial waters, and warning that they pose a threat to maritime safety, regional security and stability.
