The International Criminal Court (ICC) has rejected Israel’s appeal to overturn arrest warrants issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

In a decision making global headlines, the ICC ruled in November that there were “reasonable grounds to believe” that Netanyahu and Gallant bear criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
The arrest warrants sparked outrage in Israel and the United States, which has since imposed sanctions on senior ICC officials.
Netanyahu condemned the decision as “antisemitic,” while then–U.S. President Joe Biden described it as “outrageous.”
In May, Israel had requested the court to annul the arrest warrants while it was simultaneously reviewing a separate challenge regarding the ICC’s jurisdiction over the matter.
The court rejected Israel’s request on July 16, ruling that there was “no legal basis” to cancel the warrants until the issue of jurisdiction was resolved.
A week later, Israel sought to appeal that ruling, but on Friday, ICC judges determined that “the case, as formulated by Israel, is not subject to appeal.”
