In cooperation with the private sector, the minister added, the ministry is working to ensure that strategic food reserves are sufficient and within safe limits.

Shamali made his remarks as he met, on Thursday, with Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) President, Khalil Haj Tawfiq and a number of foodstuffs merchants, stressing the need to work to enhance food reserves and maintain price stability, namely, before and during the holy month of Ramadan.

Since 2008, the ministry has implemented a hedging policy, according to which a safe stockpile of wheat, barley and food commodities have been built, with multiple import sources and a safe supply-chain.
