Amman – Today marks the 54th anniversary of the martyrdom of the late, by the will of God, His Majesty King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein, the founding king, who met his Lord as a martyr on the steps of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque while preparing to perform Friday prayers on July 20, 1951.

King Abdullah I played a pioneering pan-Arab role in the Arab liberation movement, which began to emerge in the early 20th century. He maintained continuous efforts in engaging with intellectual and political leaders, striving for a brighter future for the Arab nation.
His Majesty King Abdullah II continues the Hashemite path and the legacy of the founding grandfather, working to strengthen the shared bonds of the Arab world in pursuit of unity, resilience, and a better future. He also upholds the democratic principles laid down by the founder since 1920.
History, along with the free people of Jordan and the Arab world, proudly recalls the role of the founding king in safeguarding Jordan from schemes that sought to undermine its Arab identity and freedom, as well as its land and national identity.
The late King, may God rest his soul, was the first to lay the foundation of democracy and to advocate for political pluralism during that era. Under his reign, Jordan witnessed the establishment of its first political party—the Arab Independence Party. He was keen on engaging with writers, poets, and intellectuals, discussing with them various matters and issues of national and Arab importance.
King Abdullah I, may his soul rest in peace, was a wise leader with keen foresight regarding the threats facing the Arab nation and the challenges it would encounter. When Arab armies rose in defense of their Palestinian brethren, the courageous Jordanian Arab Army was at the forefront, fighting battles of honor, bravery, and sacrifice. They preserved the Arab identity of Jerusalem, whose walls were watered with the blood of Arab Army martyrs who gave their lives defending Palestine and the Holy City of Jerusalem.
