Royal Documentation Center Unveils Historic Record of Jordan's First Labor Union

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, marked annually on May 1st, the Royal Hashemite Documentation Center showcased a historical document detailing the establishment of the first labor union in Jordan.اضافة اعلان
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Center explained that the documentation is based on an archived issue of the newspaper Al-Jami’a Al-Arabiyya (The Arab Union), which published the details of the union’s founding. The information is featured in the book “Popular Participation in State-Building in Jordan (1921–1948)” by researcher Suhaila Al-Shalabi, published by the Center in 2024.
According to the documents, the first labor union in Jordan was established on May 2, 1932, under the name “Association for the Aid of Jordanian Workers”.
The union aimed to organize labor affairs, protect workers’ rights, and promote local production—at a time when the country was undergoing a critical phase of economic and social development.
