Riots break in Shafa Badran following resident murder

AMMAN — Riots broke out in the eastern Amman district of Shafa Badran on Saturday, resulting in one injury from a live bullet, Al-Ghad News reported. اضافة اعلان

Sources said that at least 22 vehicles without license plates belonging to the relatives of a young man, who was shot dead early on Saturday, were roaming neighborhoods where the family of the alleged killer reside. The sources added that they were burning property and commercial complexes in the area.

Preliminary information revealed that the suspect, who is 30 years old, was under the influence of alcohol while carrying out the murder of the 30-year-old victim.

The two are believed to from the same clan.

A security source said that a report was received to the North Amman Public Security Directorate (PSD) at dawn Saturday, informing police authorities that a body was found in one of the vehicles belonging to a 30-year-old person, who was found to have been hit by a bullet.

A PSD statement said that the suspect was arrested and that he confessed to the crime. The firearm used in the crime was also seized.

A prominent Jordanian clan has issued a statement on Saturday denouncing what it described as a heinous crime committed by one of the clan members in the Shafa Badran area.

By noon Saturday, three houses had been set alight including one belonging to a Lower House deputy, according to the source cited by Al-Ghad. Additionally, six vehicles were also torched.

The PSD spokesperson states that the investigation is still ongoing.
