Upon their arrival at the museum, Her Majesty and Princess Salma were received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, Mrs. Entissar El-Sisi.
The opening ceremony was attended by heads of state, prominent figures, and representatives of cultural institutions and international organizations concerned with heritage and antiquities.
The event featured a speech by President El-Sisi, as well as several musical and visual performances highlighting Egypt’s historical significance across the ages, as reflected in the museum’s exhibits.
Her Majesty and Princess Salma joined a guided tour of the museum’s facilities and viewed some of its most notable displays. The museum, considered the world’s largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization, houses tens of thousands of exceptional Egyptian artifacts.
Among the most remarkable collections on display is that of King Tutankhamun, comprising around 5,000 items dedicated to the famed pharaoh—shown together for the first time.
The museum also features an ancient granite statue of Ramses II weighing 83 tons, an exhibition devoted to King Khufu’s solar boats, and numerous recently restored artifacts being displayed to the public for the first time.
The foundation stone of the Grand Egyptian Museum was laid in 2002, and construction was completed in 2023. The complex includes a children’s museum, a 3D theater, a conference center, restoration halls, restaurants, and retail spaces. The museum will open its doors to the public on November 4.
