AMMAN — Ibrahim Al-Badour, member of the Health Committee at the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), said that if tests for Omicron were conducted, the number of infections would be double the current estimate, according to Ad Dustour.اضافة اعلان

The government should tighten preventive procedures and take new decisions to limit the spread of corona, while people are required to adhere to preventive measures, Badour said on Tuesday, urging the government to come up with a comprehensive awareness program it could carry out in partnership with various private media to educate people about the importance of vaccination, the third dose included, in stemming the spread of the disease.

Former minister of health Saad Al-Kharabsheh said that vaccination in Jordan is not happening at an optimum rate, despite the availability of vaccines.

The Ministry of Health Wednesday announced that 300,000 Jordanians received the third dose of corona vaccine.

Meanwhile, Adviser to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Medical Affairs Adel Al-Wahadneh was quoted by JO24 as saying that Jordan should brace itself for a new wave of pandemic in the middle of March, and that most infections “will be from the Omicron variant”.

Jordan has nearly 1,000 cases of Omicron, he said, adding that the rate of spread in the Kingdom is still better than in surrounding countries.

Wahadneh attributed the decline of the third corona wave by 44 percent to the school winter vacation, but said that not enough testing is done in the country, and that “lack of random tests may give inaccurate numbers of daily infections”.

He also said that hospital admissions are still at an undesirable level, as they exceeds 30 percent, which is a high percentage, but expressed satisfaction with the activating of Defense Order 35, which in turn increased the demand for vaccinations.

Former minister of education and member of Senate Mohammad Juma'a Al-Wahsh said that in-person education must continue even if Jordan witnesses a new wave due to Omicron.

He urged the government to take measures that will see parents vaccinate their children.
