As part of this launch, five smart gates have been installed in the arrivals hall and four in the departures hall, allowing Jordanian citizens to pass through entry and exit points autonomously and smoothly. The system relies on smart verification technologies using iris scans and passport data.
To activate the service, travelers must register once in advance through the Sanad app, ensuring their digital identity is already activated. Registration can be completed by accessing the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship’s services within the app and selecting the "Request to Use Smart Gates" service.
Registration requirements include:
Jordanian nationality
Age over 16
A passport valid for more than six months
A registered iris scan
Once the request is approved, travelers may use the smart gates for a full year without needing to re-register.
The smart gates are designed for ease of use, high accuracy, and efficiency in reading passport information and capturing biometric indicators. This significantly enhances the precision of border procedures and reduces waiting times.
The ministry emphasized that the pilot phase will undergo continuous evaluation in preparation for expanding the service to include additional traveler categories and broader implementation in future phases.
