PSD launches transparency, human rights departments

AMMAN —  Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD), Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah, instructed the Police Judicial Department to launch transparency and human rights sections in the directorate's units, which have direct contact with citizens, such as correction and rehabilitation centers, and departments of criminal investigation, anti-drug control, and vehicle licensing, traffic, and refugee affairs, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

The step reflects PSD's interest to maintain communication with citizens and enhance their confidence in the directorate's employees, who will remain an "example of discipline and professionalism," he pointed out.

on the decisions' goals, he stressed the PSD's keenness to strengthen principles of transparency, human rights, and respect for the rule of law, within a framework of justice and equality without bias or discrimination.

These human rights sections will be headed by specialized judges from PSD, who will enjoy complete independence and will receive observations, complaints or abuse reports, and submit them to PSD Judicial Department to take the necessary legal measures, according to a PSD statement.

As for scale of operations, the new offices will be tasked with inspection over places of temporary detention and monitoring work inside correctional and rehabilitation centers, the statement added.

Earlier, PSD has launched on its website an Office of Transparency and Human Rights, to facilitate citizens' communication, either by e-mail or the contact numbers.
