Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said Thursday that international reactions to His Majesty King Abdullah II’s speech opening the UN General Assembly session underscore its importance and candor.
Speaking to the press in New York, Safadi said that when the King speaks and outlines the consequences of Israel’s actions, the world listens because it recognizes His Majesty’s credibility and that of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in its efforts to promote security, stability and peace.
He stressed that international reactions to the King’s remarks indicate that the international community is beginning to see the reality of Israel’s actions and that Israeli policies have been exposed before the international community.
Safadi said Jordan is working in coordination with its Arab brothers and the countries involved in the two-state solution conference chaired by Saudi Arabia, Norway and the European Union, noting that all parties are working to build support for this position.
He said this explains Israel’s efforts to cast doubt on those who criticize it, from Britain and France to other European countries, and ultimately Jordan.
Safadi noted that the “fierce” campaign launched by Israeli officials against Jordan comes amid a sense that they have been pushed into a corner, exposing what he described as their reality and their “criminality and practices” before the international community.
